Acesso:
Existem várias entradas possíveis para este canyon dependendo da secção a ser realizada. Se pretender começar em R1 estacione em #1 num pequeno largo na ER103 e procure um pequeno trilho que dá acesso à ribeira pela margem direita.
Se pretender evitar a C50m e entrar um pouco mais abaixo, deixe o seu carro em #3 junto a umas mesas e procure a vereda que desce cerca de 50m mais a acima por entre as urzes.
Saída:
Após o ultimo salto deverá sair pela levada na margem direita. Deixe um carro perto do fim do canyon em #2.
Observações:
- Se evitar a primeira cascata de 50m, o canyon tem apenas dificuldade vertical 2.
- No verão a ribeira encontra-se seca.
- Deve ser descido de inverno.
- Itinerário frequentemente utilizado pelas empresas de animação turística.
- A existência de escapatórias e a possibilidade de saltos fazem deste canyon uma boa alternativa para os dias de chuva.
- O caudal é facilmente verificado da estrada logo a baixo do estacionamento de entrada, podendo observar a C50m

Caudal normal 💦 👍🏻!
Parte superior muito estética, claramente que Rappel R2 é o ponto alto do canyon.
Mais informo que R2 é consideravelmente alto, caso sinta dificuldade, usar uma plaqueta mais abaixo para facilitar posteriormente o aceso às argolas.

Beautiful little canyon with plenty of jumps and an interesting first pitch. Highly recommend! It was cold but I’ve been in colder.

Ribeiro Frio is back in condition. The touristic part is well doable, only the handrail bolts of R12 are still in very bad condition, one is missing, the second one loose. The rock has good grip from the beginning till R12. The big waterfall is on the limit concerning the amount of water. This part is more slippery than the rest.

Em geral o canyoning matem todo o equipamento necessário para a descida em boas condições. Em r3 existem novas pedras na lagos que tornam o salto perigoso.

The water level lowered a lot, there is running water until the old dam. Afterwards it is dry (with remaining water in the pools) and the water returns in the end.
Not too long and the 2023 Frio season will be over.

Even more water than a week before. The canyon could need a reequipment…
In R5 one bolt is not tight anymore, in R 12 one bolt of the handrail is missing, the other one is not tight and the ropes to connect some anchors are worn or too thin.

Big water, on the limit of being able to go with a group.
Less cold than last week, better weather than in the south.
With more rain to come in the next days, there will be too much water for some days.
Descended on 5. December 2022
Water from the beginning till the end, unfortunately the water is a little brown. It was very cold, it felt colder than “usual”.
The Equipment did not change compared to my last descent. Thanks or repairing the steep part of the access.
With the forecasted rain, there will be more water in the next days, take care, we observed some new traces of flood. Don´t go into Frio during rainy periods!

There is running water from the start till the dam. A little later the water comes back step by step. The 45 meters waterfall is easily doable. There is still a bolt missing on the start of the handrail of the last but one waterfall. And the other one needs to be tightenend. If it will not continue raining, I guess Frio will be dry again in a few days.

Cold water as always and big flow.
We started with the “touristic” part, which is still very nice. There are some freightenend traces of an enormous flow some days or weeks ago. Everything was passable, the rocks are a little slippery in some parts. Two bolts have to be tightenend:
The one just above the water level after the rappel with the deviation on the black hook (whatever the bolt is for) and the upper bolt on the handrail on the last but one waterfall (MC 4 in the sketch).
Afterwards we returned to the picknick spot, changed ropes to go for the big waterfall. Rapelling in the waterline was on the limit but doable if you know the canyon. With the connected bolts, retrieving the rope is much easier. Thanks for this.

Unfortunately already dry.
The beginning of the path to skip the big waterfall was difficult to find.
The only shower we got was the water hoe at the end of the canyon.
At least some refreshment.
